Summer Adventure @ CPL

Ready for a Summer Adventure?

It’s great to explore new places, whether it’s inside the pages of a great book or physically going outside! This summer, we want you to explore the world in every way possible. That’s why we created the Summer Adventure! It combines reading with real-world experiences in a way that allows anyone to participate, no matter where the summer takes you.

You will have from Friday, June 21st to Saturday, August 17th to complete the Summer Adventure. Keep track of your progress with a Summer Adventure Guide, which includes all sorts of missions for you to complete. Kids who complete all the required missions will receive a prize and chance to vote on which ice cream topping you’d like us to offer at our finale on August 16 at 2:00 pm. You’ll also help us select one lucky (or unlucky) librarian to get slimed!

Teens and adults will receive an entry into a raffle to win gift cards, a Kindle Fire, Echo Dot, or bluetooth headphones. We’ll announce the raffle winners at the Starry Night Craft program on Thursday, August 22.

How to Participate

Starting June 21st, you can register in-person at the library, or register online. You can register at any point during the Summer Adventure, as long as you complete all missions within the time frame, and you finish by the end date.

All Summer Adventure materials can be found here.

When you register, you will be automatically signed up for an email newsletter from the library. It will include library programs, a link to report your weekly reading, and maybe some fun mini-challenges. You will also need a Summer Adventure Guide, which is full of activities and missions to complete. Pick up a guide at the library, or download and print at home.

Ages 0-5

Grades K-6

Teens & Adults

You have three levels to choose from: Ages 0-5, Grades K-6, and Teen/Adult. Each guide has different reading goals and activities, so choose the one that’s the best fit for you. Use one guide per person. When you complete all the required activities in your guide, bring it with you to the library to claim your prize or raffle entry.

We highly recommend coming to the library and picking up a pre-printed guide, but we understand that summers are hectic and you might need to print at home. When you register, you’ll get access to printable PDF versions of the guides. For the best results, print the guide double-sided, flipped on the short edge, with 2 pages per sheet in landscape orientation.

Kick-off Party and Finale

Kids and families can kick off summer reading with us on Friday, June 28 at 2:00 pm. We’ll have games and activities, and at 2:45 pm we’ll rock out with the Massachusetts-based ska band Josh and the Jamtones. Bring your own pork-pie hat and checkered suspenders!

We’ll wrap up the festivities on Friday, August 16th at 2:00 pm at our finale, which will feature games and an ice cream party with the toppings you voted on. Everyone who attends the finale will also help us select one lucky (or unlucky) librarian to get slimed!

Kids vs. Adults Reading Challenge

We’re pitting kids against adults to see who can do the most reading this summer! Take a couple minutes each week to log how much reading you’ve done (estimates are fine), and we’ll display it for the entire library to see. You can log your reading by following the link in the emails, or the button below.

K-6 Reading Logs

We’re not requiring K-6 kids to record every book they read, but we understand that you or your teachers might like you to keep a reading log. Pick up a log at the library, or download and print at home. Voracious readers should feel free to use as many reading logs as needed.
