Borrowing Information
Cheshire Public Library has established the following circulation guidelines. These guidelines help ensure quality customer service & enable the library to practice non-discriminatory procedures, protect the privacy of patrons, and provide protection from misuse of patron cards by unauthorized persons.
How to Get a Card
Cheshire residents must present identification confirming street address when applying for a new card or updating a card.
Non-residents must present a valid hometown library card.
Your Account
Due to privacy law, staff can’t look up other accounts or family member’s accounts, except for a minor child.
When you login to your account, you will see a list of your current checkouts, holds, fines, and saved lists.
Adult Collection Loan Periods
1 Week: New DVDs & Blu-rays, Quik Fliks*
2 Weeks: New Adult Books, Music CDs, Audiobooks, FastTrack Books*, Magazines
3 Weeks: All Not-New Adult Books and Audiovisual
Items marked with * are not renewable.
Children's Collection Loan Periods
2 Weeks: All New Children’s materials, Current Nutmeg Books*
3 Weeks: All Not-New Children’s materials
Items marked with * are not renewable.
Other Loan Periods
*Museum Passes: 2 days (Limit of 2 passes at a time)
Mobile Hotspots: 2 weeks (return to front desk)
Board Games: 2 weeks (return to front desk)
Boomboxes: 3 weeks (return to front desk)
CD players/Car Kits: 3 weeks (return to front desk)

Late Fees
Museum Passes: $10.00 per day
Holds
Holds put you on a list to receive an item. Once the item is available, it is set aside for FIVE (5) business days waiting for you to check it out.
Holds not checked out by the end of the 5 day period will be made available to other patrons on the hold list.
To place a hold, search for an item in our catalog and click the Request It button.
Library staff can also place a hold for you. Simply fill out the online form linked below, visit us in person, or call us at (203) 272-2245.
Renewals
Items eligible for renewal will be automatically renewed (1) one time provided they are not:
- On hold for another patron
- Designated as non-renewable (see chart above)
- Interlibrary Loan items
Downloadable Collection
Overdrive · Libby
- Checkouts: 10 items at a time
- Holds: 10 items at a time
- Renewals: 1 if there are no holds
- Loan period: 21 days
