Fall 2018 Book Sale
After a very successful Friends of the Cheshire Library book sale, we think it is safe to say that this town loves books. Or, to be more precise, Cheshire residents love books! This was obvious over the last six months, as thousands of gently used books were donated to the Friends of the library. Our Friends volunteers handled each book several times before they ultimately ended up on the sales tables. On set up day over 300 boxes were delivered from storage by Ace Van & Storage. We had great assistance from many Friends members, the MechaRams, the Rotary Club, and the High School’s Interact Club as we arranged the books for display.
Our sales days were busy with customers, and it was fun to hear their comments and recommendations on various books. Giving books to children/grandchildren for the holidays was a common theme of discussion. Even with the inclement weather, we had two record sales days and achieved our second highest total. We had additional fun with daily door prizes from Toro Sushi, Mr. B’s, The Vic House, and Pho & Spice restaurants.
Sunday’s bag sale was facilitated by Stop and Shops’ donation of bags, making it possible for patrons to get a great deal on books for only $10 a bag!
We were very pleased to see so many of our left-over books going to non-profit organizations on Monday after the sale. They went to local charities, organizations in state, a less affluent library in a neighboring state, and two international charities.
The Friends raise money for cultural, recreational, and educational programs and activities at the Cheshire Library. It is extremely gratifying to see how the entire community also shares our love of books and support of the library!
Hope to see you at our Spring sale next May!!
