November 9 will bring the only true memoir of the series: Waiting for Snow in Havana by Guilford author Carlos Eire. In this memoir, Carlos Eire, now a Yale professor of philosophy and religion, describes what it was like to grow up privileged in pre-Castro Havana and how his childhood slowly disintegrated after the Batista government fell. In 1962 Eire and his brother Tony were airlifted to Miami as part of Operation Pedro Pan. As they marveled at the joys of life in the U.S., they did not realize that it would be three years before they saw their mother again. They did not realize they would never see their father again.
